Smarter, Sustainable Staff Travel

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust has worked with Mobilityways to better understand staff commuting patterns, reduce commuter emissions, and support more sustainable travel choices across its hospital sites.

Using detailed commuter data and Commuter Emissions Calculation, the Trust has been able to establish a baseline for commuter emissions and identify where sustainable travel interventions would have the greatest impact, helping target investment where it matters most.

They also introduced Personal Travel Plans, delivered online to reach significantly more staff than traditional face-to-face planning alone. Combined with improved cycling facilities and Liftshare, these tools make it easier for employees to choose more sustainable ways to travel to work.

This data has strengthened the Trust’s business case for further investment, supporting a new shuttle bus for Weston Hospital and an on-demand overnight shuttle service for staff.

Mobilityways have been able to give us our ACEL score (Average Commuter Emissions Level), so that we can set targets for what we need to achieve, when we need to achieve it.
